Flying Fish:
or how sushi travels from sea to landing country to final destination
This visualization primarily makes use of the NOAA import/export database, which logs the total volume of fish products imported or exported by the United States.
Untitled: How much sushi do you get from a Tuna/Salmon/Whatever?
Fish in a Kettle, or where tuna and salmon are caught/farmed, and how these parts of the oceans have warmed in the last 25 years
This visualization uses:
- The UN Fisheries and Agriculture Global Tuna Atlas, which tracks annual fish catches by ton broken down into 1° square of latitude and longitude across the globe. This dataset covers 1950 to 2023.
- NOAA’s GISS Surface Temperature Analysis models, which estimates global surface temperature change.
- This data is overlaid with the Global Tuna Atlas to show how temperature and tuna catch can geographically correlate
- FORECASTING MODELs??? Look into
- Economic Exclusive Zones/Fisheries Claims, which analyzes which countries will be the “winners” of the changing geography of the fisheries
- This forecasting is done from the perspective of NOAA’s import/export database, which has a historical record of which countries export the most fish to the US
